A short biography of convenors
Heitor Alvelos PhD in Design and Media Culture (Royal College of Art, 2003)MFA in Visual Communication (School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 1992). Currently, Heitor is Professor of Design and New Media at the University of Porto, Portugal. He is also Outreach Director of the UTAustin-Portugal in Digital Media, as well as Director, on behalf of U.Porto, of ID+: Institute of Research in Design, Media and Culture.
Tevfik Balcioglu is Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, Yasar University, Izmir, Turkey, He taught at Goldsmiths’ College (1991) and Kent Institute of Art & Design (1992-2002); moved into Izmir in 2003, established the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at IUE and directed it as founding dean until September 2011. He organized international conferences, edited several books and journals including a special issue of Design Journal entitled: A Glance at Design Discourse in Turkey.
Brigitte Borja de Mozota is currently director of research at Paris College of Art (PCA), professor in management at Université Paris Ouest and member of research laboratory CRICC at Université Paris I Sorbonne where she supervises PhD and research projects. She teaches design management in various Masters in design faculty and in business schools and runs international workshops for design in business on her design value model "designence".
Dr Deana McDonagh is the Chair of the Industrial Design program in the School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and faculty at the Beckman Institute of Advanced Science and Technology. She is an experienced design practitioner and entrepreneur.
